Alexander
and Mary married in their early 20’s and lived in Scotland until 1888.
In 1886, Alexander, who was a sailor and fisher by trade, ventured
to the New World by way of South America around Cape Horn
and arrived off the BC coast in late 1886.
He explored farther up the inside passage and eventually sailed
back to Victoria.
He soon left to return home to Scotland and his young family.
In early 1888, he and his young wife and family of
8 children left Scotland forever and ventured to the New World.
He and his family traveled across the great continent of The
Dominion of Canada and settled in Victoria, British Columbia, in late
1888. One
more son was born in 1890 bringing his brood to 9. He purchased land and settled in what is now called James Bay, just
outside the city. He prospered and soon his sons had embarked on careers of their own
in the sports business, feed and grain business and even politics. At one time during the early part of the 20TH century,
Robert, his 3RD son, owned one of the biggest sporting goods
stores on the West Coast.
